I have two nodes in the same datacenter, both running CentOS 5.2

I enabled the private IP and added it via the guide, http://library.linode.com/networking/co ... interfaces

ifconfig shows it's running, but when I try to SSH from one node into the other via the private IP I get no response. SSH'ing via the public IP works fine.

I followed the steps exactly as they're outlined in the guide, what might be the problem?

You need to reboot (both of) your linode(s) so that your system can *see* the new IP address.

We'll amend the guide to clarify this in the next build.

If it's still not working after reboot, check firewall. That got me one time.

My mistake, I had the netmask wrong.
