I tried the new vulnerability-corrected kernel, saw nice-ness problems and processes that could no longer kill themselves. Went back to the old kernel for now.

Latest 2.6 Stable (2.6.18.8-linode19) caused problems, now on 2.6.18.8-linode16 and it is OK.

Hmm. Rebooted with the new kernel again and it seems to work fine now.
