While i recognize that without adjusting /etc/resolv.conf the private IP assigned from the linode manager tab will prob. be of little affect I would like to be able to remove the private ip assignment as I inadvertently clicked the button expecting a dialogue/confirmation prompt to appear prior to the actual assignment of the private ip.

The existing behavior is counterintuitive and did not reflect my expectations in lieu of other interactions established elsewhere on the manager.

In the mean time how do i _remove_ the assigned private IP until I actually need it?

thanks

The opposite of how you applied it.

Clicking the button doesn't enable in on your node, you have to configure it.

So, there is no private IP until it is resolved? What is the point of assignment then? At what point does the network `forget/drop' the temporarily reserved address?

It's assigned to you forever. But it won't work until you configure your node (and reboot once). There's no harm in leaving it assigned.

Also, resolv.conf has nothing to do with it.
