Myself, I don't mind the $1 transaction on my personal credit card every month. By paying monthly, I make 9 cents interest based on my 1.59% APY bank account. If Linode offered more than 9 cents off for paying annually, I'd switch to it.
I was under the impression that yearly discounts were discontinued. Maybe you have yours grandfathered in, but in my case, for instance, I was told that there was no discount for paying for a full year. Linode seems to be content to pay the credit transaction fees for the monthly charges.
