Hi, i've recently bought a linode and i want to know if to correctly use the dns service i shoud change my ip to a fixed one instead of dhcp. or the ip's are reserved and assigned based on mac addr?

If so, which ip sould i set? the one i got from dhcp?

They're fixed the DHCP is just for convenience, each node is assigned a single IP.

The only reason for static is if you're using multiple IPs.
