A couple of minutes ago, I tried to access my Linode (li-23) on host2. SSH was giving "connection timed out" errors, the web server was inaccessible, and pings were failing.

I logged into lish on host2, and found that the Linode was working just fine; I could log in, and all services were running. The system was still inaccessible from anywhere other than lish.

I then sent a single ping back to my system at home. It worked fine, and once I did that, everything became accessible from outside.

Any ideas? I checked and found that ECN wasn't enabled.

I'm using the Debian image, and I've kept it updated via apt-get. The 2.4.24-linode19-1um kernel is running on this system.

That sounds exactly like this fix, although I looked and you've already rebooted since this went out. I haven't heard of any problems similar to this since I released the fix. Perhaps when host2 is rebooted (schedule TBD, but before the end of March) everyone on the box will have the correct configuration.

This is not the same problem. I paused the Linodes for about a minute a piece to determine which was causing high load on the server. High load (due to heavy disk I/O) is also why the hosts are moving to a 2.6 kernel.
