Hello,

I have a linode running CentOS 5.5 currently. I was thinking of maybe running Ubuntu now. My server isn't nothing major yet, just a personal site. So nothing critical will be lost etc if I did switch.

What I would like to know from the Linux Community is:

- Which OS is better? Want one that will last in updates/development. Stability etc.

- IF ran Ubuntu, which version would you use and why? 10.04 LTS or 10.10?

I am partial to using Ubuntu 10.10 since I just installed that on my girlfriend's laptop. Got both CentOS5.5 & Ubuntu10.10 distros here with me now. Am using CentOS5.5 on my local machine for development purposes...

Thank you for any help/advice.
Eric

Linode lists what customers choose as a percentage here, if it matters:

If you do go for Ubuntu, you should probably use 10.04 LTS, since it's an LTS release and a bit more mature at this point.

No distro is really better than another it's just personal preference, I use ubuntu 10.04 because

1) I like apt over yum
2) Debian's packages are a bit old (although I could use backports)
3) It's LTS (yay 5 years support!)

Load up a few distros on your home computer in a virtual machine, have a play, see which you like best.

This looks interesting:

My research leads me to believe the best distribution for your server is going to be any distribution that isn't Damn Vulnerable Linux. Such as, for instance, a distribution similar to one I use.

The things people spend time creating...ok "no distro linode offers is better" how about that? :P
