Would be great to have the option of installing Arch Linux with ext4 on the root partition. It's currently ext3, which isn't optimal for our workload.

You can do ext4 if you really, really want, but at this time, the host servers do not support ext4 and cannot mount, fix, resize, or back up ext4 filesystems. This will hopefully be resolved soon, but it will take some time.
