When I'm logged in and I click my user name to view my own profile, it comes up with the no spam dialog box. This has me a bit confused. I'm not going to spam myself using Linode's forum, I can spam myself without getting in trouble using my own web site or through my own email accounts :-)

I can understand having this if I'm logged out or if I try to view someone else's profile, but it seems weird to do this when I'm logged in and I'm trying to view my own profile.

I think it was supposed to be a no/spam barrier on new user registration. Unfortunately, the forum uses phpBB, so both the registration page and your own profile are accessed through the same script "profile.php". I guess Linode could make the no/spam barrier depend on parts of the query string, but it might be more work than it's worth.
