Hello
Does anyone have any comments on how Hostgator's VPS compares with Linode? http://www.hostgator.com/vps-hosting/

I am currently using the shared hosting on Hostgator. It looks like you have to pay more for the same level of service with VPS, compared with Linode.

Linode is fully un-managed for all sizes of plans. At hostgator you're going to pay more for crappier performing hardware and for them to manage your server.

If you want to deal with everything on your server, firewall (iptables), installing and configuring all software, performance issues (usually due to improper configurations for the allotted resources). You can squeeze a lot more out of Linode then well most (all?) other VPS providers.
