The online help docs and the forum posts I saw didn't describe the final steps.

Scenario: a Linode with two IP addresses needs to be completely restored from backup.

Option 1: Completely remove all disks from the Linode and restore from backup. Honestly, this is a very scary option.

Option 2: Create a second Linode. Backup to this one. Then, somehow move the IP addresses over. But is this possible?

Any ideas? How have you all done this?

Either approach should be fine, so it's sort of your preference. I suppose the key question is if you care about your current Linode disks, or if there's nothing worth saving there. Certainly the dual Linode approach is a bit more conservative in that respect.

Though if you have enough free space, a third option would be to restore to your current Linode and then just boot whichever configuration you want.

To your IP question, there's a "Swap IP" link on the Remote Access of each Linode that lets you swap addresses with another Linode in the same data center.

Or, if you really like your current host, you can still use the second Linode for restoration/testing, but then Clone that Linode back to the original when done (and at which point you'll know for sure you can destroy the current Linode contents).

Thanks - I hadn't seen that. That makes it all a lot easier.
