Hi guys,

Followed the guide at http://library.linode.com/email/postfix ... 0.04-lucid but it's not working. All I want is for all emails sent to any domain I have on my IP to be forwarded to a Gmail account.

So following the guide I've set my hostname in main.cf (to jamie.mydomain.com), setup the virtual file, run postmap and restarted postfix but no luck yet. Looking in the mail.log it seems some old messages say some email bounced with 550 User does not exist but since the last few days, every email I send to any of my domains fails, and the mail.log hasn't reported anything.

I'm not sure I have the DNS setup correctly and would appreciate any feedback. My hostname is jamie.mydomain.com and I have a DNS A record pointing to my IP called jamie. I have an MX record called mail.mydomain.com (this was added by default). Am I supposed to connect these in some way?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Either provide the real info or you're on your own.

Soooooooooooo tired of the noob twenty questions game.

Ahh lovely, a nice and friendly welcome to the community, thanks vonskippy.

What information do you require? As you so nicely put it, I'm a 'noob' and therefore am unsure of all the things you would like to see.

First off, the experienced folks here do not like the redacted/default names/domains used in the guides, so your jaime.mydomain.com should be whatever is actually setup. Secondly, I was running into the same problems, but that is because I was on 12.04 and Dovecot version is much newer than what that guide walks you through, and a lot of the configuration names have changed, causing all sorts of headaches. I would start by posting your Ubuntu version, and replace the jaime.mydomain.com with your actual host that you have setup.

Thanks for the advice telijah. I think I'm just going to use a 3rd party like gmail/hotmail to manage my email accounts, save anybody here the hassle.
