I am trying to build a custom Ubuntu kernel for my 12.04 server. I am compiling it on a machine running 3.12.9-x86_64-linode37 (although I am using the 3.8 sources).

I am using the Ubuntu kernel build system to create portable deb files.

No matter what I do, it builds as linux-image-3.8.13.18_3.8.13.18-1_amd64.deb.

First of all, why? And secondly, does it matter?

amd64 = x86_64, it's just the other name for it (intel implements amd64 ;))
