I'm looking to install a distro that supports Dtrace with Node.js. SmartOS fits the bill and has the plus of being developed by the company that managed Node.js. Is it possible to install it on my Linode box?

Ah, I see SmartOS is an OpenSolaris/illumos offshoot. You'll have to see if they have support for running as a Xen PV guest. Traditionally Linode has only really worked smoothly with Linux-based operating systems; you can read a recent blog post about FreeBSD (linked from this thread) for some hints about the challenges involved.

The SmartOS community is probably better equipped to say how difficult of a task this might be.
