I noticed that the only debian distro that is offered with linode is a small installation. It would be nice if a larger installation was added :)

Start small, apt-get what you need. It's the only way to fly! :D

It would be really cool if there were a Linode-local Debian repository. Probably impractical though.

There kernel.org debian mirror is silly quick though. I nearly fell out of my chair.

It might me comforting to those used to silghtly less minimal debian installs to have a list of what's missing from the standard install. I've spent a few hours today hunting a whole bunch of things i didn't know I needed.

I would imagine that a minimal Debian distribution probably doesn't include much more than what's installed by default with debootstrap - there's a list of those packages installed by debootstrap available at http://kmuto.jp/debian/debootstrap/sarg ... strap-i386 .

I can't do it myself with my Linode right now, but maybe someone could quickly create a new Debian distro with the wizard, run "dpkg -l" on it, and paste the results here? That'll allow us to see for definite what packages are installed by default.

Actually this is probably a 'standard' install, just didn't select anything extra through dselect/tasksel/etc on installation :)
