The "sl" command appears to come preinstalled on Linode's Finnix rescue images. This command is meant to catch people mistyping "ls", and displays an uninterruptible steam locomotive animation.

In some circumstances, this is humorous and can play a role to encourage the user to be careful and avoid potentially more damaging mistakes. But when one is booted into a rescue environment where one might well be trying to solve a time-sensitive problem, stalling the user's terminal for nearly four seconds and possibly clearing important information off the screen is not funny. There's already enough ways for things to go wrong or be confusing in such an environment.

I'd prefer that the Finnix image stay professional and not contain silly things like this unless they're much more passive and harmless.

I'm sure that the Finnix project would love to hear any feedback you have on the packages included as part of their distribution: http://www.finnix.org/

Taunting me when I've just said something isn't funny doesn't seem very nice.

But your main point is sound, so I've opened #1496644 at the Finnix Launchpad site in case they agree. I do think Linode should remain aware of this as well since they're using the distribution as part of their "official"(-ish) rescue environment.

'sl' is ridiculous.

Although it's not (by default) interruptible with control-c, you can background it with control-z.
