I have yet not been able to reboot or shutdown my machine using 'shutdown'; I've tried both the -h and -r switch. I have to log in to the control panel each time. When I use 'shutdown,' what happens is that the machine is turned off automagically.

I'm with another UML hoster and I'm able to use 'shutdown -h' to reboot the machine. They have a 'autoreboot [on|off]' switch whose documentation says, "Sets whether the VM will reboot automatically after being halted." I know there's issues with 'shutdown -r' under UML.

So, my inquiry is, can a similar thing be done with Linode's UML so that we don't need to log in to the control panel each time? I've tried both -r and -h without success.

Thank you and keep up the good work! :)

Correction: I've been able to halt properly since that's all 'shutdown' does whether I use -h or not.

Between reboots certain things need to happen on the host side. Therefore, I've patched the UML kernel to halt on reboot.

I'm working on a very small patch that will use exit code to tell the host if a reboot was issued from within the Linode. Then, it can do the host stuff it needs, and then re-boot the Linode.
