We're currently investigating. Updates in a few...

There's a problem with the disks. Both disks are currently reporting errors, preventing the system from booting, not even with init=/bin/bash.

I've powered down the machine for now, in case it's a temperature issue. I'm going to leave it down for about 10 minutes then see if I can bring it back online, at least for some recovery.

I for one certainly appreciate your dedication. I hope it's resolved easily enough so you can have more (some?) downtime yourself.

To our valued customers:

Tonight, at approximately 18:30 Eastern, Host15 suffered a permanent disk failure. We regret to announce that all data on host15 has been lost from both drives.

As you should already be aware, Linode does not provide backups of customer data. We do employ RAID1 mirroring to protect against single hard drive failure, but in this case the host suffered the unlikely failure of both drives within a short time.

We have migrated all accounts that were located on host15 to host62, a brand new server which was just deployed this week. Host62's hardware specifications are a vast improvement over host15's, and although this doesn't mitigate the loss of user data, the future performance of your Linode will be vastly superior.

We understand that this is an inconvenience and therefore will waive the fee for the next three months of service on these accounts. We are very sorry for this, and plan to investigate ways to eliminate the possibility of this happening again.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

-Chris

My regrets to the folks on Host 15. This is a great reminder to all of us: have a backup regimen! Wherever your data resides, Linode or not, have it stored somewhere else as well....

Hi!

A bit of happiness about this crash...!

Yes, it seems we have won in performance, at least it feels good. On the other hand, I was carrying a CentOS installation, done in minutes, not well set up. Day by day, and leaving it for another day because all was working and I was a bit lazy to dedicate some time to it.

Now I have a full-featured Fedora 5 distro running on it, and a good backup copy / root_fs for developing at home.

Some time ago I was asking for a Fedora Core 5 installation for Linode. Now I have it.

If you are interested, I am searching my old post to tell people how I did it. Very easy!

Best regards, and HAPPY NEW YEAR IN HOST62!!! ;-)
