The Big Announcement: Double the Resources!

100% Resource Increase!

As hinted at in various threads, the big announcement is here: We've doubled the resources on all our Linode plans! That's double the RAM, double the disk space, double the transfer, and double the value!

Standard plans now include:

Linode 128 becomes Linode 256 - 8GiB Disk
Linode 192 becomes Linode 384 - 12GiB Disk
Linode 256 becomes Linode 512 - 16GiB Disk
Linode 384 becomes Linode 768 - 24GiB Disk
Linode 512 becomes Linode 1024 - 32GiB Disk

Rollout and Availability

Fremont: Those on hosts 56 and higher have already received the upgrades. For the remaining Fremont hosts, the upgrade/migration schedule with more details will be posted soon.

Dallas: We're still acquiring more datacenter space to perform these upgrades. The other option is to migrate your Linode to another datacenter (IP change) and receive the upgrades immediately. If you want to do that, please open a Support Ticket.

Atlanta: Upgrades completed.

Fremont hosts include: hosts 9-26, 56-76
Dallas hosts include: hosts 1-8, 27-55
Atlanta hosts include: hosts 77 and up


Annual Payments

Customers who pay annually also receive an additional 50% disk space on top of the new standard. Please fill out a support ticket if you'd like to switch to annual payments.

Instructions

To take advantage of the extra space, you have a choice of:

• Resizing your existing filesystem to occupy the new space
  • Shutdown your Linode
  • Members -> Disk Images -> Click on your root filesystem -> Enter in new size, and Save Changes
  • Boot your Linode
• Creating new empty disk images
  
  • Members -> Disk Images, scroll down to "Create an Empty Disk Image"
  • Enter a label (for example: "disk2")
  • Enter in the size (use the "Storage Summary" box in the upper-right corner)
  • Choose "ext3" for filesystem type, and Create Disk
  • Members -> Configurations -> Click on your config
  • Add your new "disk2" to an open /dev/ubd? slot. Save
  • Reboot your Linode
  • Log into your Linode, and as root: "mount /dev/ubd[insert device letter here] /path/to/mountpoint" where path/to/mountpoint is an existing directory
• Deploying more Linux Installations
  • Why, just use the Distro Wizard! Experiment with a new distro or something

I'm at the Dallas datacenter -- what's the timeframe for equipment upgrades there?

I'm not sure if I should ask to be moved, or wait it out...

you know, it's kind of funny.... i just spent the evening hanging out with another linode customer (a former roommate and good friend of mine) who asked me if dashboard.cfm was the "big announcement" that's been rumored about. i told him it wasn't, and boy am i glad it was so much bigger than that.

You guys are fantastic, I can't believe this... and it's on top of a storage and a RAM increase not that long ago!

It's been over a month since I requested the space, and no ETA yet. I've been trying to get an answer from my rep there, but it's been slow going. It's at least weeks away, so if you want the upgrades soon you'll need to migrate.

Very nice, thanks caker. I'd love to migrate from Dallas to Atlanta myself but can't with all those filtered ports in Atlanta. Any idea if that'll be fixed, or are you stuck with it?

I just said the same sort of thing (started with a linode64, now got a linode256)! That's an astounding increase! That'll make the competition think!

I migrated from Dallas to Atlanta, and it went without a hitch.

The whole process was automated, and I could control when my vps went down.

I have my network configured manually, so I had to login on the console and edit my configs manually. But that's easy.

I was squeamish about it, but I can't imagine it being easier, or going more smoothly.

I'm on host41.linode.com and it looks like mine has increased by 50%, but the RAM hasn't come into effect yet. I'm assuming this rollout will take place over time.
